TEC - Tribal Issues Topic Group

The Tribal Issues Topic Group was established in January 1998 to address government-to-government consultation between DOE and Indian Tribes affected by its transportation activities. The group focuses on transportation planning, funding, and training. Members convene at the semiannual TEC meetings and hold frequent conference calls between TEC sessions.

The group has addressed issues such as a consolidated transportation funding grant, DOE's revised Indian Policy and Cultural Resources Management Policy, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's proposed rulemaking on Tribal pre-notification of certain radioactive material shipments, and Tribal rights associated with inspection of radioactive material rail shipments.
